Yeonmi Park

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

This story is filled with darkness, but also so much hope. Even while Yeonmi did not think she could continue, she still found a way to keep on living. Sometimes what she has to do was to become empty, and it is amazing that she was able to make herself whole again. She filled herself with love for her family and was able to keep fighting.

I talked to a man that came from a war torn country. He often argued with people who did not understand their privilege. We in peaceful countries that have had democracy and not been in war for generations, we forget about the hardships people have to go through all over the world. we need these kind of stories to be known so that we don't forget our privilege.

This was hard to put down. Sometimes it made me very sad, so I had to take breaks, but most of the time I only felt a yearning to know more about them because it was written in such a compelling way. I can never imagine how her life has been, but it is important to learn more, only then can we stop pretending that nothing bad is happening, or that it is not important to us because it is so far away. They are people with the same dreams and hopes as everyone else. We need to understand that.

I many times felt like I was reading a dystopian novel, and that hurt that we romanticize these kind of lives. Among young adult it is the most popular genre. And we think 'that is so crazy what it'd it would happen in real life' while it already is happening.

it's a book everyone need to read and learn from.
