Another author I love that I have way too long of a gap between books read. While anxiously awaiting the next book in her Eastons series, I realized I have some back library of hers I haven’t read. Luckily, my local library has at least the first two books in this series on the shelf.
Poor, poor Josephina. This story starts out in such an awkward and heartbreaking way for her. I wanted to physically hurt everyone in her life during that first chapter. What is wrong with people?!?
Brett is a really cocky guy, but with good reason. He only acts the way everyone expects. Yet people want to act astonished when there’s actual video of the things they know he does. Brett doesn’t lie though, so the ladies he gets intimate with are fully aware of what they are getting into with him. It’s not his fault when they want to change the rules. The thing is, Brett is actually a great guy. Which becomes very clear the longer we see him interact with the people of his hometown of Sugar, Georgia.
Everyone expects too much from Brett. Nobody expects Josephina aka Joie to accomplish anything. It’s magnificent that they see are able to see each other. To see who the real person is in each other. Both of them are able to relax and stop putting on their masks when they’re together. Too bad that while they are finally being honest about who they are, they are not so honest with what they’ve done. When things come to a head and Joie, along with the reader, finds out the full truth I was in tears. Joie wouldn’t want my pity, but it’s not pity I felt for her. It was protectiveness. I just wanted to give her a big hug.
