Bianca and Lucas have finally found a way the two of them can be together, but it comes with a hefty price. The two are now living undercover with Lucas’ mother and friends taking on the task of killing vampires. The only problem is Bianca is part vampire herself! No one knows this except Lucas, and her secret is bound to come out.
While living with the Black Cross, Bianca starts to learn how to effectively fight vampires; something she has a hard time coming to terms with. On the other hand though, she is really mad at her parents for lying to her all her life about the fact that she is part ghost (something she found out in the last book after ghosts were trying to kill her!).

Throughout Hourglass, Bianca is still struggling with her love for Lucas and her attraction to Balthazar, a vampire she met at school. She can’t help but worrying about him and her parents, especially after the fight and fire that almost destroyed Evernight Academy.
Everything comes to a head when the vampires from the Academy come to the Black Cross headquarters and attempt to rescue Bianca; only to find that she doesn’t want to come and Balthazar ends up getting caught. Things get even worse when the Black Cross members find out that Bianca is a vampire herself and Lucas, in some way or another, has been affected by Bianca biting him. The two then are on the run for good, trying to escape the Black Cross.

The biggest twist comes at the end of the book when the unthinkable happens! I won’t post about it because I wouldn’t want to ruin the twist for anyone, but I was seriously shocked when I read the last fourth of the book! Be ready for tears and then mouth dropping amazement! I cannot wait for the next book.

Overall, I really enjoy this series. I at times didn’t understand Bianca’s voracity when it came to accepting the Black Cross as her new family, and it made me a little frustrated to read these parts. Overall though, the ending of this really sold me on continuing this series when the next (and last?) book comes out.
