Recs if you like Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are?...

“Leave no trace” wasn’t meant to be a suggestion. Nature is calling, and we need to pick up.

science-y books that highlight different aspects of non-human intelligence, perception, behavior and cognition! mainly highlighting ethology and neurobiology research that i find super cool!

Nonfiction books to understand our fellow animals and, through them, ourselves

Nonfiction books about environmental ethics and philosophy, human/environment relations, cultural ways of knowing, and understanding wildlife. Essentially, books that will make you think about your role as a fellow creature of this earth🌱🐾🐚 (Check pinned comment for more recs!) [created Sep '25]

Or anyone else who wants books with long titles! Will update as I find more.

Suggestions are welcome, but don't forget, subtitles don't count!

Non fiction recommendations i've gathered by doomscrolling on instagram

Philosopher Rene Descartes declared that non-human animals were nothing more than soulless machines who functioned as automata. Which is to say, Descartes was an idiot and this nonfiction proves it. Explorations of animal cognition, intelligence, emotions, and consciousness. So far I've only added ones that I've read or are on my upcoming TBR, but suggestions are also welcome.
