USA Today bestselling author Margot Scott delivers a spicy, age-gap, found-family romance in the gripping first chapter of the Safe and Sound duet. I was on the hunt for a devil the night an angel fell into my lap. Before she even whispered her name, I wanted to throw her over my shoulder and smuggle her out of that poisoned playground, a gilded cage where the scotch is aged to perfection and youth is chewed up and spat out onto the Italian marble. The killer I’m tracking has a thirst for innocence, something Holly possesses in spades. I’m so hot on his trail that I can taste him, but until my cuffs are on his wrists, I’m keeping this angel under my wing. In my arms and in my bed where I can protect her. Where I can be the man she craves. And the daddy she needs. Stay Baby Stay is a romantic suspense novel and the first chapter in the Safe and Sound duet, featuring a protective daddy in uniform, a quietly fierce heroine with anxiety, unshakeable friendships, and themes of vigilante justice. A full list of tropes and warnings can be found on the author’s website.

I enjoyed this! I think Margot Scott really gets the emotional context required for being into Dd/lg types of encounters. While I don't resonate with parts of this dynamic, the daddy issues shared by her many characters in her various Dd/lg books are certainly shared by me, and so I find them satisfying whether I share the exact kink or not. This book was more plot driven than some of the others I've read from her, and your mileage may vary with how successful that is. There's still plenty of sex (though, as per usual, much of it did very little for me) and of course a strong theme of surrogate parental care, so I didn't mind that it was more plot heavy. It's also not a particularly original or realistic plot, but that's not a negative for me. This isn't really a major or serious content warning, but I'll also reiterate this is an age gap romance between a legal teen who grew up in the foster care system and a hardened ex-military cop. The veteran/cop bit was my biggest issue because #acab. I originally gave this four stars because I think it's a good story and I enjoyed it for the most part. Ultimately, though, I downgraded it to three, because I can't see myself re-reading this, though I will read the follow up. Consider it more of a 3.5.
