I decided to read this book after seeing an ad for it on Facebook. The ad touted the story as a cross between Harry Potter and Stephanie Plum. It's not.

I don't hate the book. I went on to read the second book in the series, though when the third book is released next week I don't think I'll bother with it.

Things that makes this story like Harry Potter:
    There is magic.
Witches and wizards live apart from humans.
Weird people showed up to tell the main character she was a witch.

Things that make this story like Stephanie Plum:
The main character has a weird family.
    She's kind of clumsy.
She meets a hot guy who is in law enforcement.

Things that make this story NOT like Harry Potter and Stephanie Plum:
    Everything else.

It's not a bad story. It's not poorly written (though it could use a more thorough editing). It's just... meh.
