Recs if you like The Seventh Veil of Salome...

In honor of my Canadian queen Catherine O'Hara tragically passing away today, I wept (literally, I am unwell, y'all), and then felt inspired to make a list of books that I think Moira would like. Please give me ideas, I am thinking books that are/contain the following: dramatic and theatrical, VERBOSE vocabulary paired with profanity, female rage/female empowerment, sly humor, dark and twisty, possible nods to The Industry, excellent accessories required.

If we are going to do Qwordy's the Hardest Reading Challenge You'll Ever Do 3.0 - we should probably get some Pagebound badges along the way! I'm specifically going to be adding books from Quests and readalongs that go past the July start date and match at least one of these title prompts: Periodic Table, Familial Terms, Rainbow of Words (also Joseph's coat), Numerical Titles, Titular Counting 5+, Pun in the Title, and First & Last Name in the Title. I chose not to display multiple books from the same author and also picked the first in the "series" (if applicable) only. This is to introduce you to the author and the series, that way you can look into each further if you'd like! 🥰

These Diverse Baseline Challenge was created by @bookish.millennial & @themargherita.s (on instagram). In 2025, the goal is to read 1 book by a racialized author each month. This challenge is meant to encourage readers to try genres they historically don’t reach for, find new-to-them racialized authors, and to encourage reflection on our reading habits.

Books where the cover features only one person

The Mummy (1999) is one of my top 3 favourite movies of all time, so I've been searching for books that have the same feeling. A bit goofy, a bit of archaeology, a bit of fantasy horror (though light on the horror like the movie) and a down bad man who just goes along with whatever his lady wants. I haven't read most of these; I just did some googling, and these are the most common comparisons I could find. Recommendations are very much appreciated!
