She immediately shuts down my advances, so I opt for the road less traveled—straight to the friend zone. My approach works like a charm, and when she invites me into her bed for a no-strings, friends-with-benefits arrangement, I vow to give her everything I have. She’s been hurt before, and if I’m able to help her heal while giving her a spectacularly satisfying time *pats self on back*, then I’ll be happy. Or at least that’s the lie I keep telling myself as the time ticks down on the final buzzer of our “relationship”. Now the real question is, can I score the winning goal in a game neither of us realized we were playing?

0Emory is such a strong woman, I love her! She’s an amazing mom and sister, she great at her job, and she has found a way to stand on her own after a very terrible relationship. I really don’t know how she’s going, and going strong.
Jett has been the happy-go-lucky fun-time guy of the team for a while. He’s not exactly a huge womanizer, but he’s not ready to settle down quite yet. Until he meets Emory and she knocks his socks off. He doesn’t even notice the puck bunnies throwing themselves in his path after he sets eyes on Emory.
As usual, Sawyer Bennett wrote a couple with off the charts chemistry. No matter how much either of them thinks getting into a relationship will be a bad idea, they just cannot stay away. And I don’t want them to. I want Emory to learn to trust again and to open her heart. I want Jett to recognize that he is ready to settle down, he just hadn’t found the right person until now.
Of course, there are bumps along the way, but Jett and Emory always find a way to work through the bumps. In typical Arizona Vengeance fashion, I didn’t want to put this one down after I picked it up. I was sucked in from the start.
Update after reading audiobook March 2025:
While I really enjoyed this book and adore the main characters, but reading back my review from a few years back I have to assume this one is better to read with your eyes if that's an option for you. I felt the chemistry between Jett and Emory, but not the way I did with the initial reading. Being from the U.S., sometimes I love an accent in an audiobook. Sometimes it's distracting to me. I think that was the case here.
