First, I’d like to let you know why I’m somewhat vague in the above stats on this book. I saw on Goodreads that there is a 2.5 in this series but I couldn’t find it on Amazon. I went to the author’s website and found it there. It’s actually a free ebook download! Yay! But I still couldn’t find a page count or the actual date it was released or any of that information. Also, for some reason it is listed as book 0.5 on Kate Pearce’s website, but timeline wise it definitely comes after The Maverick Cowboy.

This story is a bit different than the other books in the story since Jay is a Navy SEAL working in a bar instead of working on a ranch. It’s a lot shorter than the other books since it’s a novella so we don’t get to know Jay on a super deep level, but we get to know him well enough to know what a good guy he is. Jay’s whole adult life has been about helping others and being a hero so his reactions to his injuries seem very real to me.

Erin is a very smart and strong-minded woman. What I love about her is that she also has common sense. There were a few high-tension scenes where she was in danger. When she was told by the man that has experience and is trained to save people to stay put, she did! So often the heroine gets self-righteous and indignant when she’s told to do something for her own safety and it drives me nuts. But Erin had the brains to listen to the Navy SEAL when her life is in danger.
