Twisted Gift (Twisted, #2)

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

I killed a fae leader and now I have to face the consequences. Where I used to stress over college classes, I now have to worry about being a leader to fae who despise me, all the while adjusting to my new diet of human emotions. As for Tristan—I'm still drawn to him in ways that steal my breath and leave me wanting more. There’s no denying how strong we are together or the passion we once shared. And with a looming threat and fragile alliance between our people forcing us to work together again, it’s dangerously easy to slip into old ways. And each other’s beds. But I have to remember that we’re on different sides now. Forbidden to be together, no matter how much I crave his touch. If only I can get my head and heart on the same page…

While I enjoyed this book a lot, I had some issues with the plot.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review so here it is:

The characters - I like them. Especially Nikolai and Skylar. Why those two? Idk, they just seem like fun characters to me. I enjoyed Tristan and Aurora of course. Max was great. Allison and Oliver felt somewhat like an after-thought throughout the book.

The romance aspect of this book was spot on. Which I mean, it should be, it's a romance novel. I don't read a lot of them, it's not typically my genre.

Then there's the paranormal plot. And this is where it starts to unravel for me. The Fae come from their own world. Why (and how?!?) are they so dependent upon humans to live? They cannot live without human energy but they didn't even live in the same world to begin with, so how did they make it? There was definitely room for improvement with the worldbuilding in this aspect.

Also, I'd say the last 1/4 of this felt SUPER rushed. It was like a whirlwind of crazy there toward the end and I didn't really like the direction it took. I liked the last chapter though so that's a bonus.

I get why we didn't get to see the full story, not showing the destruction of the Experiment because it's going to be part of an upcoming book unrelated to Aurora and Tristan, but it left this hole in the story for me. I wanted there to be more to this book. Like another 50 pages. And I don't say that often.

Overall, I did really enjoy the book, and honestly, if you don't go into it thinking too hard about the worldbuilding (let's be honest, a lot of readers don't), then I think people will absolutely love this story. I completely enjoyed the romance plot and the story as a whole.

I would recommend this to anyone who A) Read and enjoyed the first book, and B) Likes a good romance. I've already pre-ordered copies for me and my BFF.
