Recs if you like The Shadow of What Was Lost...

I've noticed most fantasy lists are saturated with YA and romantasy books, but some of us crave adult high-stakes adventures. If you enjoy epic stakes, deep characters, and majestic world-building (without the distraction of romance) this list is for you. For series, I've only added the first book. 📖

books with covers that look like another

I've listed the first if it's a series to help you begin!

The top 100 fantasy novels according to the r/fantasy list as voted on by the community - this includes series (represented by the first book in the series) and standalones.

The list is in order with Middle Earth ( represented by Lord of the rings) being number 1 going down to the 100th.

(Note: Mistborn is position 8 while Cosmere is position 35 - as Mistborn is within the Cosmere I lumped it in with the 35th position so it is lower down than on the original list)

30 of the best epic high fantasy books with the highest stakes, featuring richly detailed worlds, intricate magic systems, and immersive storytelling.

Epic/High Fantasy series by people who were inspired by the people inspired by Tolkien

Fantasy books with engaging plots, fascinating world building, quality characters and complex relationships bc I’m sick of authors choosing one over the others (ie fourth wing saying fuck a consistent plot, let’s just have them fuck)

The worlds don’t exist to house the characters, the plot isn’t just there to go in between hook ups and actions of the characters match with their traits 😱

And then also cruel prince bc that shits gonna hit every. Single. Time. ✊✊✊ (and some wlw bc yum)

All good things come in 3s

A list of all the books featured as monthly picks for The Broken Binding Sub. ◽️ Not Including special editions outside of the monthly sub.◽️ I will include new books as they are announced!

You should check out these series if you enjoy epic fantasy, like Brandson Sanderon's work! (First books listed only.)

"By the breath of Set, what sorcery is this?! These scribes of the far north and the distant west have imagined worlds that almost - almost - match the splendor of my own court. They speak of dragons? I have hunted lions in the heat of the Retjenu! They speak of rings of power? I wear the crown of the Two Lands, which binds the world from the Delta to the cataracts of Kush! Still... there is a certain charm to these 'high fantasies' that I can not deny."

When you want a little whimsy with your journey! 🦄 Feel free to leave suggestions, always adding to this list as I think of them.

Books with at least one excellent friendship that is core to the novel!

(I decided siblings and friends to lovers don’t count, unless the in the latter one the romance part is SO minor to the plot and the friendship is wayyy more significant.)

ya and adult reads whose chokehold on me made me feel 13 again in the best way (standalones & first books in series)

A list compiled of books that would work for this year's r/Fantasy bingo! Trying my best to meet hardmode, but might not be the case for every one. Would to hear other recommendations!

Trilogies. Trilogies! A list full of trilogies. This has a collection of titles I'm interested in and some I've simply come across. To save you the trouble, I made sure to put all books in a trilogy in this list. Enjoy! 💐

Collection of grand scale fantasy that is executed so well, that you forget you’re reading a book and not watching or experiencing a performance

Most popular or most read books under the category of "High Fantasy" (set in a completely fictional "secondary" world, features grand stakes or a struggle between good and evil, widespread magic, mythical creatures, or an epic quest that decides the fate of the world).

Only the first book of a series will be added.
