A Thousand Perfect Notes

C.G. Drews

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

An emotionally charged story of music, abuse and, ultimately, hope. Beck hates his life. He hates his violent mother. He hates his home. Most of all, he hates the piano that his mother forces him to play hour after hour, day after day. He will never play as she did before illness ended her career and left her bitter and broken. But Beck is too scared to stand up to his mother, and tell her his true passion, which is composing his own music - because the least suggestion of rebellion on his part ends in violence. When Beck meets August, a girl full of life, energy and laughter, love begins to awaken within him and he glimpses a way to escape his painful existence. But dare he reach for it?

I'M KINDA FREAKING OUT HERE OKAY? Even though this was written by one of my fave book bloggers, my review is completely objective. Honestly, her writing style just suits me - it's simple, but descriptive enough. She managed to create likable and complex characters in less than 300 pages, there were no plot holes, the pace is perfect AND BASICALLY IT'S SO GOOD, READ IT.

First of all, BECK IS A PRECIOUS BABY WHO NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED AT ALL COST. Second of all, JOEY IS THE SMOL QUEEN OF ALL THINGS. Beck was one of my fave male characters of all time. Considering most male characters in ya are those macho guys who can do anything and do no wrong, Beck was a breath of fresh air. He was vulnerable and sweet and such a good older brother, I just wanted to hug him and never let go. Joey was his slightly nuts and completely adorable younger sister I just fell in love with her immediately. August was also a great character. She would constantly surprise me with how smart and compassionate she is. And just when I think the plot will go in one direction, she would do or say something to make the plot go in a different direction.

The love story was just right. Actually, the whole time it's just hovering, it's not really there but it kinda is. It is delicate and so light. Their emotions felt natural and real it was so sweet. I also liked how everything played out in the end, it kinda surprised me but it felt right.
