Debbie Macomber

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

An uplifting Christmas tale, set in the Alaskan wilderness, about finding love where it's least expected--from the #1 New York Times bestselling author who's one of America's most beloved storytellers. Before beginning her new job as sous chef at one of Seattle's finest restaurants, Josie takes on a six-month position cooking at a lodge in an Alaskan lake town. It's only temporary--or so she thinks, as she becomes a valued part of the local community, falling in love with the people who call the Klutina Lake home. But one man, in particular, stands out among Josie's new friends: Palmer Saxon, a quiet, intense sword craftsman, whose very existence forces her to question whether her heart wants to return to Washington at all.

Decided to check this one out because I find fiction that’s set in Alaska to be really fun.
Started out a bit dull and lacking that Alaskan feel I tend to get reading other books set here.

As the book went on, I was continually surprised by the poor writing, since Macomber is a successful author. This was also a highly predictable cookie cutter romance—one of those where you can tell exactly how everything will go before the first chapter is completed.

    An extremely dull, unoriginal read.
    2 stars.
    ⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Note:
    LISTENERS BEWARE!!!!
I listened to the audiobook; the introduction was painful. It seemed to be Macomber herself and she does NOT have a voice that’s easy to listen to.
However, once chapter 1 started up, it didn’t improve much. The voices are pretty hard to take and there are weird, misplaced accents at times. Recommend getting this in print or digital to spare yourself. Really: SAVE YOURSELF. A 2-star performance.
