Hunter Holt might be the most stubborn ex-soldier ever born, but when he’s called on to help find a lost foster kid, he jumps into action. Even if it means working with the woman who broke his heart five years ago—the woman who still haunts his dreams . . . Faye Smith has spent five long years trying to get her life back on track. She knows she should’ve turned toward Hunter and not away from him. But they both had too many demons to destroy. Maybe now they’ll get another chance—and save someone else’s life too . . . But first they’ll have to stop arguing long enough to trust the Deep Ops team. Hunter was a lost boy himself once. In fact, he ran away from the exact same man, their monster of a father. Now he and Faye will have to unite to find the brother he never knew—and maybe each other . . .

Rebecca Zanetti really writes amazing novellas. This story kept me turning the pages. I did not want to put it down.
The chemistry between Hunter and Faye is evident from the very beginning and I found myself rooting for them from the start. Once Wolfe and Raider from Deep Ops show up, the action really took off.
It’s wonderful to get some backstory on Raider and see where he comes from. There is another character introduced that may come into play with the main group at Deep Ops and some characters referenced that I hope we learn more about as this series progresses.
While I don’t know that you need to read this story to understand the rest of this series, it’s such a great and read and the pace is amazingly fast. You don’t want to miss the touching relationships in this one.

This is the story of Faye and Hunter. They grew up together in a foster home with Raider, who we met in book 1 as part of the team. they had a relationship that went wrong, and they’ve been separated for the past five years. However, they’re both back together to find someone. And along way, they have to decide if a second chance is worthwhile. Raider, along with Wolfe, and of course Kat tagalong for some of this to help. And we even get an Angus and Roscoe cameo. They were as oddball and as wacky as ever. And I think we may have hints of Wolfe with Dana the journalist in the future. Along as a couple of our favorite Dark Protectors making a brief appearance. So there was a lot going on in this book. And it all happened really quickly. Maybe a bit rushed. But it was sweet that Faye and Hunter got there happily ever after. This book fit in nicely in the Deep Ops world, and I can’t wait to read more about Raider now that we know a little of his backstory.
