Recs if you like The Man Who Spoke Snakish...

Fantasy inspired by Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, and/or Russia (myths, setting, etc.) Will also be including Slavic inspired fantasy books here as well.

The Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) have some amazing books filled with stories inspired by the countries occupations by the Soviet Union, their hardships, their resilience and their resolve to revolt and find their independence. Not a lot of people know much about those three states let alone about their literature.

I have attempted to make this list with books that I believe need to be discovered and read by more people!

Fantasy that is not set in the US or the UK

Books to fulfill you reading around the world challenge. Ideally, the author is from the country they are writing about. Bonus points if it’s translated!

Books that challenge reality in all the best ways! From SciFi and speculative fiction to horror and literature these books are true escapism. Most I have read and loved some I’m most definitely going to read. I’m sure not all will be for everyone and that’s ok! Just wanted to share a little weirdness 🤓

A list of fantasy books originally written in languages other than English and later translated. The focus is on modern works (mostly post-1990) aimed mostly at adult readers. Please help me find the best ones from your countries!

Only one rule: there is a snake on the cover. It doesn’t have to be a specific genre, it doesn’t have to be a specific age group, it doesn’t even need to be a good book.
