After last year, Harry is certain love only exists in the movies anyway. But then the cause of his first heartbreak, Grant, returns with a secret that could change everything—not to mention, there’s a new boy in town, Logan, who is so charming and sweet, he’s making Harry question everything he knows about romance. As he tries to keep his emotions in check and stick to his perfect plan for the future, Harry's about to learn that life doesn't always follow a script.

In my effort to diversify my genres that I read, I wanted to throw in a cheap romance and was happy to find a gay one to check out. Unfortunately, it was clear pretty early on that I wasn't going to be blown away with this. Most of that came from how trope-y the writing was, and also how beginner novel this was. I actually took the time to check out how old the author is because the writing reminded me of high school stories that my friends and I wrote. It wasn't anything amazing, but it got the job done without too much thinking involved.

My favorite part of this novel was the unconventional "love triangle" because it felt a lot more real than most stories handle it. The characters were overall pretty rational in how they handled exes and their emotions, and I appreciate that.

By the end I really didn't like the script chapters. They were the messiest part of this and felt really disjointed. For them to be an insight into our main character's goals, it made it hard to cheer him on bc his little superhero story inspired by his love life took an already uninteresting story and made it even blander somehow.

harry is determined to have a distraction-free summer to focus on writing his screenplay for a competition that could help him get into college. but then grant, harry’s first heartbreak, and logan, the new boy in town, throw off these plans.

this is a pretty good example of there are no bad tropes, just bad execution. because normally i don’t like love triangles, but weber somehow made it work for this book. i don’t think there was really an “obvious choice” which is often the case with love triangles and makes me like them less.

i really liked harry’s growth throughout this book and how this book shows that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. i think that’s a really important message to send. i’d highly recommend this book to ya fans!

I enjoyed listening to this book and it really made me relive the summery feels. However, I wasn't blown away by it, the plot was rather predictable. But it was a nice quick listen for me. The whole thing with Hailey also didn't sit right with me. She was right about calling Harry out on his selfishness, but him not telling her about her cheating boyfriend wasn't completely on him. It's not necessarily his responsibility in the first place, it's the responsibility of Hailey's boyfriend. But second of all, everytime Harry tried to bring it up, Hailey shut him down.
