I received this book from the Author via BookSirens.
I asked to get an Advanced Reader Copy of this book because its blurb looked interesting. I mean Greek Gods, Demigods, and Monsters, three of my all-time favorite things to read about all in one book! What could possibly go wrong?
Well, what went wrong was that this story mimicked Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson" series far too closely. First, we have a bunch of demigods in a school setting (which seemed okay but close to a camp setting just for demigods), then we have demigods going missing, so I thought okay this is similar but different. Then The author had to add in the entire "I didn't know I was a demigod and Zeus's daughter", then add in "oh my mom got killed by a monster" and we basically have Percy Jackson changed into a girl. And oh did I mention she had to find the spark of Zeus? Much like Percy having to go search for the Lightning Bolt. And it just went downhill from there.
I love books about the gods. But I also want ORIGINAL stories. Sure there were some aspects of the story that were original. But far too many of the plot ideas came directly from the Percy Jackson series.
Oh did I mention it's a mystery? Well, that never gets solved so I assume that will be solved in a later book.
I really wish I could give it more stars, but I simply didn't enjoy the story enough and I REALLY hated the main characters because I thought they were sophomoric at best. And I really did not like Beth, and the entire boy issue just about made me want to smack her senseless.
Some may enjoy the story, but for me, it just was okay.
