Manga that was adapted to anime in the 90s that defined a decade.

A collection of the most influential shoujo manga from the 90s. Magical girls were big, but there's more than that! ⚠️WIP, I'm happy to add any suggestions!

Note: I'm including volumes with their first publication or serialization date in Japan in the 90s. Some may have been published into the 2000s, or they may not have been officially translated until later.

I love manga and shoujo and josei are my favorite demographics. Consider this list a potential starter pack in shoujo and josei

Love triangles are a tricky thing to write, and for many readers it’s a trope they avoid entirely. But as a connoisseur of this trope (asian dramas will do that to you) I can confidently say that a well-written love triangle can absolutely take over your brain. All it really needs is an interesting dynamic between all three parties, and/or a second lead with a terrible martyr complex.

That is to say, I’m not sure polyamory would’ve fixed them, but it certainly wouldn’t make them worse!

this is not a judgment of the manga itself. many are well-written, popular, or feature character growth 🙂‍↕️ i like few of these myself!!
