A merman meets the bruja who will change his life... The women in the Palacios family are cursed to always lose their love. Until one day, Amada Palacios uses all her magic to transfer the curse into her own body. Now, Amada wanders the world alone, never getting too close or too intimate with anyone who might have the misfortune to love her. But when the curse begins to ache in ways it never did before, she's desperate to end her agony. Amada travels to Scotland in search of the Grand Master of the Abyss who is said to have a cure for any curse…for a price. Rónán is a merman warrior of a dead kingdom. For decades he’s been held captive by the Grand Master—Ronan is the main attraction in the Grand Master’s oddities exhibit. Every night the captive merman weeps tears of pearl and sings the call of the deep. Every night he holds on to a sliver of hope that one day his captivity will end. As Amada and Rónán’s fates intertwine in the nights surrounding Samhain, their monsoon romance unravels a secret that will bind them together forever, or forsake them into the endless abyss.

-Bruja Amada took the power of her family’s curse entirely into herself, and she seeks the warlock in the Shadow Market for help. He offers to break the curse if she signs a contract with him, and he sends merman Rónán to convince her to sign.

[R+A just fuck all night and declare that she’ll never sign the contract; she’s in love with him literally the next day, and follows a hint from her ancestor she saw in a dream: the warlock = the one who cast the curse, and the curse will defeat him. Warlock declares he loves A and curse kills him, and some random creature grants A a wish, so she wishes to be a mermaid to be with R; HEA]

    insta-love; little mermaid vibes
-I wanted more from this novella, because I didn’t feel like I got much characterization/personality from either of our two main characters. This definitely has insta-love, which I don’t care for. Big component of the story is the erotic elements, which were okay, though ‘claspers’ doesn’t do it for me. I thought the construction/outline was decent, especially as the antagonist gets a little POV time, though resolution was a bit too neat (
