Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Angel Smith is ready to leave Antarctica for a second chance at life. But on what was meant to be her final day, the research station is attacked. Hunted and scared, she and glaciologist Ford Cooper barely make it out with their lives…only to realize that in a place this remote, there's nowhere left to run. Isolated in the middle of a long, frozen winter with a madman at their heels, they must fight to survive in the most inhospitable—and beautiful—place on earth. But the outside world depends on what Ford and Angel know and, as their pursuers close in and their new partnership burns bright and hot, they will stop at nothing to make it out of the cold alive.

    - fun action adventure tale, with very strong atmosphere
    - this was definitely more thriller/action adventure than I had realized going in and was therefore less on the overall romance; this felt like Speed, where the love was all adrenaline and proximity based?
    - I wanted more emotional development; there was some but overall I wanted more

    - this took a long time to reveal the reason being the virus in the ice
    - it felt melodramatic that there was this BBEG company, and this element put it more firmly into the adventure category for me
    - the first half was very exciting and I flew through it, but the back half felt too same-y so it took longer to get through
    - Angel was the damsel in distress too often

    - not overall super memorable other than big plot points and Antarctica setting
    - one other reviewer also points out that the second half of the book was a downturn, with cheesy bad guys, plot, and dialogue
    - I agree the ending was too much set up for book two instead of resolution for this relationship, and overall the balance was more survival over romance

Very action packed. Ford and Angel worked at a science station in Antarctica. But they get mixed up in a heist of some ice samples that contain a deadly virus. Next thing they know. They’re in a race across the continent for their very lives. They have only each other to depend on. It was an interesting story and it was stressful and harrowing watching the two run for their lives. But in the process, they fall hard for each other. I liked both characters. They were so different and kind of at odds at the beginning of the story. But the longer they spend out on the ice together, the closer they get. I liked their story. But beware, the story with the virus doesn’t end here. It picks up in the next book with a new couple.
