Recs if you like If You Still Recognize Me...

in progress - taking suggestions

Basically, a huge list of every book I ever heard features sapphic characters.

I have not read all of these, so I cannot be sure of the amount of the time on page of the sapphic characters or of the quality of the books.

Some of these I do not plan to read at all, since they are not my style. If you feel like a book doesn't belong here, let me know.

For my favs / read, check out my other lists & shelves.

Don't shoot the messenger.

There is an epidemic of authors marketing their books as having lesbian characters but never actually using the word “lesbian” in text— or only doing so in a negative context. The following list is books that use the word in a neutral or positive context. I love being a lesbian and I love calling myself a lesbian!! Let’s celebrate this word as much as possible!! 🧡🩷🧡🩷🧡🩷🧡🩷

All additions will be read and vetted by me first but recommendations are welcome in the comments!!

the coquette femme aesthetic is of the utmost importance

All the YA Sapphic books that have been published (or at least most of them). The books in this list have at least one main character who is either a lesbian, bisexual or pansexual. I only put the first books in series.

will update continuously

Not all of these characters use the terms “butch” and “femme” for themselves but I’ve included them based on my personal reading of their characters (aka butch intuition). Check out my other lists for works with canonical butches and femmes.

"i do it for the girls and the gays, that's it"

(mostly sapphic) good queer books on my personal wishlist that have an added benefit of looking beautiful on the shelf!

Books that all take place in Oxford

These Diverse Baseline Challenge was created by @bookish.millennial & @themargherita.s (on instagram). In 2025, the goal is to read 1 book by a racialized author each month. This challenge is meant to encourage readers to try genres they historically don’t reach for, find new-to-them racialized authors, and to encourage reflection on our reading habits.

This is a mix of recommendations by the challenge organizers and myself.
