There’s also the 1987 classic, And the Band Played On: Politics, People and the AIDS Epidemic by Randy Shilts, an America journalist who succumbed to AIDS in 1994.

And there’s David Quammen’s, The Chimp and the River: How AIDS Emerged from an African Forest for those who want to know more about the history of the virus.
