consistently referring to Black people as 'black shadows' as they lay dying from overwork at the hands of colonists is so insidious it makes me sick, almost every time he talks about the Black people around him, he manages to 'other' them and implying that it's hard to tell how old they are because of the way they look? just say you know nothing about people who look differently than you do.
