Myself and a group of friends do a reading challenge every year that we create ourselves. The prompt that I am having the most difficulty with is “A book set in the year/decade your were born”

So I would love if you could give me your best recommendations for books set in the 1980’s or 1981 to get very specific. Preferably no doorstoppers as I’m already tackling The Count of Monte Cristo and I can’t handle something else that long! 😄
