that was a ride for sure. I think the destructive spiral and lost grip on reality was very compelling. I like that it's not clear what's really happened, but you can get a pretty good and sickening idea. Overall I did end up enjoying this quite a bit, mainly for the highs and lows of a codependent teenaged gay situationship.
The way Andrew's inner monologue shifts throughout the final chapter is so interesting, from denial and grief to determination to protect Thomas, to this grim god complex he gives into. Especially heartwrending when Thomas offers him true hope, a way out - but also, the fact that, if this dialogue is accurate, Thomas is genuinely willing to accept his death and offers no judgement or emotion about it? Like he's treating that as equally valid and acceptable to him as Andrew stopping it all and recovering? He's ride AND die till the end.
