A collection of fractured memories and thoughts relating to Susanna Kaysen's time in a mental hospital. Interesting for its relatability, given the subject matter, and for its glimpse inside her former world.
I love the movie based on this book, and was surprised to learn how many liberties that movie took with the original text (both in terms of changed situations and omissions).

lowkey the Dad's fault for bringing his kid to do something like this...they gotta make jaunting an 18+ activity or maybe even a 21+ activity. I would not do it either way... but this particular situation could have been prevented.
honestly not a huge fan of the way Stephen King writes based on this (this is the first and only thing I've read by him) but the story concept is pretty interesting. the idea of a man throwing his wife inside of a jaunt and her being stuck in limbo forever is more unsettling than the ending moment.

I saw the movie based on this book a few years back, but had forgotten almost everything about it, which was honestly for the best.
I really like that this largely plays out as a coming of age story, with the sci-fi dystopia elements just acting as a dark undercurrent to that primary narrative. It makes every reveal about the world's dystopian elements all the more sinister. Really well-written, human characters.

I'm not big on superhero comics, but was interested in this both because my friend is a big fan of the character and because I enjoyed Thunderbolts (the movie) earlier this year. As expected, I wasn't really into the more superhero-specific scenes (fight scenes, hulk stuff, etc.) but I do think Robert/Bob as a character is interesting and I liked how they dealt with his past and powers.

Listened to this as an audiobook.
I like the general idea of this short story, but the descriptions and actions of the only woman/poc felt needlessly cruel in comparison to the other characters and that ultimately distracted me too badly to enjoy the rest of it.

I initially started this in college for an LGBT literature course, but never got around to finishing it. Restarted it this year. I really love the general story and the complex nature of Bechdel grappling with her own sexuality versus her father's life and legacy, but the sheer amount of literary references makes it a much denser read than the average graphic novel...which I wasn't always fond of.

The first “real book” (not graphic novel) I’ve finished reading in years.
I really loved a lot about it, especially Bob’s ending note on the future of the industry and his frankness about failed projects, but some of the literal writing could be hard to follow. He’s fond of run on sentences (something he admits in the book), which are at their worst when he quotes other peoples’ e-mails mid-paragraph. Still a great read tho, as someone who has watched a lot of his bigger projects.
