This had the bones of something I could have liked... I was hoping for an adult ella enchanted/my lady jane mash-up, but I feel like this book did not use the tongue-in-cheek whimsy and horse curse to its full-potential.
I felt very cookie-cutter romance in a fantastical setting where the LI is occasionally a horse. You'd think with that being a major plot point that more hijinks would ensure, but it didn't really feel like it mattered that he was a horse? like, that could have been removed and nothing really would have changed.
My biggest point is that if you are going to use cursed-to-be-a-horse and force readers to endure horse-talk (puns, idioms, etc) then it's gotta be executed well as a plot-point. And this as it is just felt bland.

I REALLY liked this. Frances Hardinge books give me a T. Kingfisher vibe and I feel like if you like Kingfisher's fantasy (like Nettle & Bone and Thornhedge) where they have a whimsical, fairytale quality while being a little horrific and scary (true to traditional fairytale creation) then Hardinge's work would be up your alley. I've only read a couple of her books so far, and Unraveller is definitely a favorite.

I'm a big fiction reader, but occasionally like to delve into non-fiction when the mood hits. I really like narrative non-fiction as my mode of non-fiction consumption so wondering if anyone has any favorites to recommend? Any topic welcome. Just not looking for dense, textbook-like non-fiction!
