Overall, enjoyable read and I thought the payoff was worthwhile (even despite the pacing which some readers mention being a bit slow, although it didn’t bother me much). The grand reveal at the end was entertaining and took me by surprise but the last several pages of the book felt almost uncharacteristically poorly edited. Without spoiling anything, certain specifics in the climax of the story and the closing pages felt rushed and somewhat poorly thought-through. Despite that, I liked the story and I look forward to reading more of Foley’s mysteries.
I was a bit skeptical about the execution of this book as I went along, uncertain of where it was going and whether or not I was really invested in the story, but I enjoyed the way the loose ends were tied and ultimately appreciated the intended message.
All in all, successful in that Lucy Foley once again pulled off an interesting big reveal that I didn’t see coming. I found most, if not all,of the characters wildly unlikeable which made for a less enjoyable read. The time setting & narrator switch ups were relatively followable but, much like with the Paris Apartment, I found myself distracted at times by what seemed like opportunities for better editing.
