I devoured this book in 48 hours, then took my time with a slower re-read while waiting for my friends to catch up. Rebecca packed book three with so much—new characters, places, and lore—that I’m still processing it all. The first 30% felt slow at times, but the latter half was a wild ride, and I couldn’t put it down during my first read. Character development varied—some grew significantly, while others remained stagnant—which seems inevitable with such a large cast of characters. There are definitely plot holes, but we’re only in book three of a five-book series, so I’m holding out hope for answers. Overall, I’d give it 4 stars. It’s not groundbreaking or Pulitzer-worthy, but it kept me thoroughly entertained. I laughed, I cried, Xaden and Violet went feral, Ridoc is a funny king—and now I’ll spend the next two years clowning myself, searching for clues to make sense of the open threads.
