I got so much Tim Burton movie vibes from this book. It was a delight to read.

❝I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met❞

I don’t think I was ready for White Nights, which is a very short story, to hurt this much. It starts off so beautifully, with our main character, to whom I relate so much. He is a lonely lover, a yapper, and especially a dreamer, just like me. He lives mostly inside his head, creating a life of fantasy because real life feels too empty. But then he finds someone who makes his whole world feel alive, and she becomes this symbol of actual human connection that he’s been missing all along. And for a moment, you really believe in that kind of happiness.

There’s something about the way Dostoevsky writes that you feel every flicker of hope, heartbreak as if it’s your own. And the ending… God, it crushed me. I felt how fast happiness can slip through your fingers like it never existed and how you can go from feeling like the world is full of light to sitting alone in the dark again. I feel for him so much because I think we’ve all been there.

Despite being just a few pages long, this book would stay with you because it’s real in a way that hurts.
