I’ve never been a fan of third person POV. It’s usually hard for me to connect with, and most books written in that style end up as DNF. But Rose in Chains was different. At first, I struggled to get into it, especially since I’m not used to this genre or writing style. But the more I read, the more I felt pulled into the world Julie Soto built. It started to make sense — the emotions, the power struggles, the longing. Suddenly, I couldn’t put it down. This is my first book by Julie Soto, and I was surprised by how intense and addictive the story became. It follows Briony Rosewood, a princess raised to believe her worth was less than her brother’s. While Rory was being prepared for the throne, Briony was left in the shadows. But everything changes when Rory dies and their kingdom falls. Briony is taken as a prisoner, auctioned off, and ends up in the possession of Toven — a powerful, complex man who is obsessed with her. The story dives into dark politics, forbidden magic, and dragons (yes, dragons! 🐉) with high stakes and intense emotional tension. Toven simps hard, while Briony struggles between self-doubt, survival, and discovering her strength. If you’re into dark fantasy romance with morally gray characters, intense slow burns, and dangerous magic systems, this one’s worth adding to your TBR.
