There’s a Booktuber I follow who always talks about how the men in Ali Hazelwood books are always described as huge, tall as a tree, etc. I thought it was hyperbolic… I get it now.
This was a TikTok recommendation of books that are not getting enough hype and I 100% agree. I liked the main character, Mika, and her group of irregular witches and their found family.
The images of magic that Sangu created were really beautiful (references the moon & stars a lot) and I could picture myself being surrounded by gold sparkling dust that only the magical can see.
It also touched on parental/familial loss and that a family can be one you choose/create, not one you're necessarily born into.
There was a little bit of romance, and I always enjoy a surly bookish Irishman, lol.
