“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” meets “Anyone But You” in the second romantic novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author and “The Bachelorette” star Hannah Brown. Starling Ranch Inn promises to be a tropical paradise, and Sybil can’t wait to escape there, all expenses paid. Well technically the expenses were paid—last year, when she was supposed to go to Hawaii for her honeymoon with her then-fiancé Jamie. But the wedding didn’t go as planned (or at all), and now she’s decided to use those hotel vouchers alone, before they expire. Sybil’s expecting mai tais, med spas and me-time, so she nearly plunges backwards into the infinity pool when she sees that Jamie has had the same idea! His family business is thinking of buying the resort, so he’s here with a gorgeous, tangerine bikini-clad “colleague” to give the property a once-over. Desperate to save face in front of the ex who broke her heart at the altar, Sybil accidentally-on-purpose blurts out that she’s here with her boyfriend. But what starts as a harmless lie to spare her dignity soon spirals into an ex-fiancé fiasco when Sebastian—the second of Sybil’s three failed engagements—pops by fresh off a photography gig. Seb’s always up for a good time, and happy to play along ...sparking unexpected jealousy in Jamie. From snorkeling snafus to stunning vistas to staff parties at the beach, Sybil does her best to juggle two ex-fiancés, but it’s becoming clear that her past of broken promises must be reckoned with once and for all—including that first fiancé, Liam, the one she never talks about… Is the notorious free-spirit, life-of-the-party, runaway bride Sybil Rain ready to heal from her three past engagements and make room in her heart for a fourth and final chance at love?

The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain is a warm, funny, and heart-centred romp through one woman’s search for clarity, closure, and maybe a little bit of fun under the Hawaiian sun. With its vibrant setting, classic rom-com tropes, and thoughtful emotional beats, this book offers both escapist charm and surprising introspection as I often found myself relating to Sybil. From the opening pages, Hannah Brown pulls readers into Sybil’s whirlwind story with quick pacing and witty dialogue that immediately sets the tone likely due to this being a second book which I didn't know going in haha. We meet Sybil one year after her almost-wedding, as she decides to redeem her nonrefundable honeymoon voucher and head to Hawaii on a solo trip. What starts as a getaway for healing soon turns into something far more complicated when she unexpectedly reunites with several of her exes on the island. Cue the flashbacks, the awkward run-ins, and, of course, the fake dating. This book excels in its use of familiar tropes like second-chance romance, forced proximity, fake dating and makes them feel fresh by centreing them around Sybil’s personal growth which I thought was great and a unique spin on rom-com. While the romance doesn’t take full shape until later in the story, it works because this is a story about Sybil first and foremost. Her emotional arc and her grappling with her failed engagements, her insecurities, and her fear of being truly known is developed with care. You know that saying "how can you love someone else if you can't love yourself?" Well, Brown delivers it with sincerity and humour, never tipping into preachiness. One of the novel’s greatest strengths is Sybil herself. She’s relatable, messy, well-meaning, and full of heart. Her voice is vibrant and consistent throughout, and her inner monologue is often hilarious. Even when the plot slows a bit in the middle, a stretch that felt like it could’ve been tighter, the strength of the character development and voice carried me through. The setting is another major plus. Brown makes full use of the Hawaiian backdrop, painting a vivid picture of sandy beaches, resort bars, and moonlit swims. The atmosphere gives the story a breezy, vacation-read feel that balances the heavier moments of reflection. I found the only problem is that she spends time discussing and wanting to heal from her three past engagements, just to start anew with a fourth one, but maybe things actually are better left in the past. Overall, this was such a delightful, sun-soaked story about self-discovery, second chances, and embracing the chaos of your own life. Hannah Brown proves she has more than reality TV star, she’s a writer with a clear voice and a promising future in fiction. I’ll definitely be checking out Mistakes We Never Made. *Many thanks to Forever Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my godddd I feel so lucky to have received this as an early reading copy 😭😭 this book is SO SO SO GOOD!! Truthfully have never felt so seen after following Sybil’s journey. She’s so relatable in an honest way. The chemistry between Sybil and the other two male leads is fantastic but the ending was perfection. Also.. dare I say miscommunication trope done right? Coming from me? A serious miscommunication trope hater??? This book changed me
