w0w! this book is a fictional memoir/autobiography of a psychopath-serial killer-cannibal woman it is pretty gross but i liked it LOL (it does NOT feel like true crime whatsoever, i have issues with true crime [i don’t even watch bailey sarian anymore]) the ending felt rushed and didn’t really feel like something the main character would do but it kind of ends up making sense? i was kind of disappointed with it tbh but overall if you can stomach gore 10/10 recommend

This had everything it needed to be a masterpiece—an unhinged, hyper-pretentious protagonist, lush prose, and a premise so bold it should have been impossible to make boring. And yet, somehow, it was.

I loved how the book fully committed to Dorothy’s absurd privilege, laying it on thick with over-the-top food descriptions and self-indulgent musings. The writing was gorgeous—florid and poetic, only to suddenly hit you with a sharp, brutal sentence that underscored the grotesqueness of her crimes. That contrast worked beautifully.

But structurally? A mess. What started as a darkly funny fake memoir slowly unraveled into a dry, meandering retelling of events, before veering into an oddly placed feminist message that felt tacked on rather than earned. I love that Emma is a girl's girl, but why end on a misplaced feminist message? It feels strange that a woman as deeply narcissistic as Dorothy, who has spent the entire novel reveling in her own selfishness, suddenly wraps up her story with a broad feminist analysis.

This book had the potential to be razor-sharp, vicious, and unforgettable. Instead, it hesitated when it should have done like Dorothy and slayed.
