For when attraction feels indistinguishable from vengeance. Achillean romances built on rivalry, old wounds, forbidden desire, obsession, political or familial loyalties, and the kind of hatred that has become far too intimate to be simple hate. Bonus points for princes, power imbalances, doomed devotion, and men who can’t decide whether they want to kiss each other or ruin each other’s lives.

Danmei is Chinese BL (boy's love), evolved from the japanese genre tanbi, which derived from an anti-naturalistic literary movement, with focus on beauty and aesthetic, which later on became the known genre of love between men (also known as yaoi). Danmei is a known genre mainly for women, also primarily written by women. It is an interesting genre to read into feminist studies, queer studies and probably also other literary studies. Other than that, it's great entertainment! Give it a shot :)

✧ [仙侠]: the most popular genre, its narrative is set in a mythical Ancient China. The key points in xianxia novels are the spiritual cultivation of qi to pursue immortality or transcendence, the existence of sects/clans, and the presence of supernatural elements/entities.

Danmei books feature romantic relationships between male characters. Some danmei take place in a modern setting but it's much more common to see historical fantasy danmei. Read the comments for more details about the books.

Characters that are so questionable that you have to wonder: how they can find anyone who could match that. Most of them are full of triggers and toxicity so be warned.

My personal favorite Danmei full of trauma and pain 🫰 guaranteed bangers for the angst addicts
