Sixteen years ago I made a terrible mistake… Now I’m back in London, and I’ve just bumped into Holly Summers. She was the literal girl next door – a cute skinny redhead who’s turned into the most gorgeous women I’ve ever seen. She needs my help. She’s running a political campaign targeted by a mad bomber. I want to keep her safe, but I keep seeing evidence of an old enemy back from the dead. I have to solve this mystery before I lose my childhood love again. I won’t make the same mistake twice. “Black” is an explosive, heart-pounding, romantic thriller, Book 8 in the Underworld series. It’s a standalone novel complete with HEA, and no cliff-hangers. It contains steamy scenes for mature readers only.

I'll be frank. When I started this book, I wasn't the biggest fan of Byron. I'm not really sure why but he just didn't click for me like the others did. But by the end of it, he was interesting.
This book had a bit of a mystery. I don't normally read mysteries but I can't deny that I enjoy guessing the outcome, whether I'm right or wrong. In this case, I'd say I was partially wrong but by about 70% through, I had a pretty good idea who the key players were. I learned to trust Black's instincts but still felt some things were a bit obvious. Thankfully, the real twist was a bit harder to place until the end but I can't say I didn't suspect the end villain when I read the synopsis. That part I got right but their connection didn't come until later.
Holly wasn't what I was expecting but I enjoyed her character. She was interesting and fun, comfortable in herself. The book didn't really give her perspective until the Epilogue so the reader can only guess that she was as fine with her situation with Black as she claimed. I suppose it didn't matter. By the end, it worked out.
Even with the HEA guaranteed and having read Anton before this book, it still made me nervous toward the end. For me, it's easy to get swept up in the excitement, even knowing everyone was going to get out of the situation just fine. It's something that can't be helped with me.
Reading this book concludes my time in this universe. It was a fun ride that I would love to take again sometime. But, it's time to see where I'll be heading next, which universe I'll be diving into. I have so many lined up and some to finish. I can't wait to revisit Sophie Lark's books again. She's an author I will definitely keep going with.
