Recs if you like I Love You but I've Chosen Darkness...

Following women on journeys to do weird and maybe violent things.

A compilation of books (mostly fiction) in which the main character/s set out on a journey, leading to moments of meditation, introspection, meandering walks through the memory, conflicts with both the self, the path, and others, and ultimately: change, for both the characters and the reader. In these novels, the journey is more important than the destination.

Introspective books by people who observe a lot, ponder a lot, feel a lot, and write about it. Creative memoir, self-indulgent navel-gazing, or "wan little husks" (as Joyce Carol Oates once put it)... whatever you personally think about autofiction, including whether or not it really is a genre, this somewhat experimental form of writing most definitely gives both writers and readers a chance to engage in narratives in a different way.

All sorts of stories about all sorts of women. Mostly litfic, some horror.

under-the-radar, lesser known weird lit fic recs

books that center a woman main character who makes extremely questionable (unhinged) decisions, whether by choice or necessity. (often seen as ~ hysterical ~) heroes & villains welcome. [ongoing list]

some book recs that involve the complexities of motherhood: the tough and tender, chaotic and beautiful, exhausting and full of purpose.

Novels with intriguing titles (that I read or that sound interesting) in English (either originally or translated); a mix of genres. Mostly 4+ words in the title, with some select 3-word-titles but no shorter ones. No parts of series except for the first book.

It’s always nice to feel like a normal person by reading about those more unhinged than you 😌 These are all women focused books. Some I’ve read and some I’m going to read. Apologies in advance if it gets long. Recommendations are absolutely welcome!! So please feel free.

I know a couple are written by men which might be taboo for some but I’ve included because I thought they were appropriate or the author has a track record of writing women well.
