Recs if you like Joust (Dragon Jousters, #1)...

I know there are a couple other dragon lists out there, but a lot of them were missing some of my favourites, so I'm just making my own!

These books the dragons will play a significant role in the plot, even if the focus of the book isn't dragons themselves (like the Hobbit).

For books in a series, I'll only be adding the first one.

Feel free to drop suggestions! I'm trying to include all the dragon books I can.

A compendium of books featuring dragons

Just an absolute butt-tonne of dragon books, baby!!

Mostly fiction inspired by Sumerian, Akkadian, Egyptian, Canaanite (and Roman Levant), Hittite, Persian etc…

I see a lot of Greek myth retellings or books inspired by them, but not that much from SWANA.

The period spans from 8th millennium BCE to 7th century BCE. This is very much unique to Sumerian culture. But there aren’t a lot of Sumerian inspired works out there. And since, we’re bound by the constraints of what’s available, I’ve been lax with the criteria.

(Different genres)

Books - mostly fantasy, but some scifi - with fantastical creatures. 🐉🦄🐦‍🔥

• Features first book of series or first book in the series that creature(s) appear.
• Avoiding romantasy as there are many recommendation lists.
• Elves, fae, vampires, dwarves, weres, etc are Beings, not Creatures imo. So not included.

A collection of older, sometimes lesser-known, fantasy (or science fantasy) books written by incredible women and published primarily between the 1980s and early 2000s (with nods to a few older ones). In a time when female fantasy authors were few and far between, these authors carved out their own space in the genre. These stories might not be mainstream hits today, but they are full of brilliant magic, deep characters, and/or worlds that helped shape the genre. (First in Series / standalones only for now - open to suggestions!)

Books for those obsessed with dragons. For series, only the first book is listed.

In the shock of the hatching, a bridge is built. These are the dragons who chose—or were forced—to share their fire with a human soul. They are the partners in the sky, the living weapons of the great wars, and the friends who growl at the shadows near our beds. To ride them is to lose your humanity and gain the clouds. We call them... the Bound Souls.

Books featuring humans bonding with dragons or dragon riders as a major plot point.
