An on-going attempt to track Asian authors in my Interested/TBR (and hopefully Finished) categories. Books are generally fiction/lit fic/fantasy with some memoirs. Authors span West to East Asia, the Asian diaspora, and mixed-race folx.

Fiction books by Arab authors and/or books starring Arab characters (and as always, Free Palestine)

partly inspired by toni morrison’s concept of ‘rememory’, where the past haunts the present. these are stories where family ties, friendships, communities, trauma, or physical locations act as threads (or invisible string) to connect characters across distance or time and through generations.

This is her list of female authors she spotlighted for Women’s History Month, that are “not the same five white ladies” we always hear about! My personal goal is to read one book from each of these 31 women this year; I have been loving this journey and wanted to share with you all!

I am not Arab American, and I do not intend this list to speak for the Arab American community or define the full range of Arab American literature. I welcome recommendations, corrections, and notes from Arab American readers and authors, especially if there are books that should be added or removed.

These Diverse Baseline Challenge was created by @bookish.millennial & @themargherita.s (on instagram). In 2025, the goal is to read 1 book by a racialized author each month. This challenge is meant to encourage readers to try genres they historically don’t reach for, find new-to-them racialized authors, and to encourage reflection on our reading habits.

This is a mix of recommendations by the challenge organizers and myself.

Britta Bohler, an Austrian booktuber who solely posts on books written by women, made a list of 1001 books to read before you die written by only by female authors ,as a response to all the lists that were being released at the time by critically acclaimed sources and included in the list about 70-90% male authors. This is me slowly reading that list.
