This was pretty good. Not as good as the psy-changeling books, but this too is an interesting universe. It was a long, bumpy journey, but I ended up loving Raphael and Elena.

In this world, there are angels, vampires, and vampire hunters. The Angels make the vampires. The vampires, in turn, serve the angels for a contracted period of time in exchange for near immortality. And the vampire hunters are there to ensure the vampires don't cut out on their contracts. Elena is a hunter with a unique sense that comes in handy with the Archangel ruling New York, Raphael. Raphael 'hires' Elena to hunt down an unknown, dangerous creature. In the process, they fall in love and face lots of danger. At first, I didn't care at all for Raphael and the collective superior attitudes of him and his fellow angels. But he grew on me the more he became affected by Elena's humanity. But this book is just the start. I can't wait to see how they handle the upcoming challenges.

    Reading Under the Covers

This book had a strange concept and and a story that was hard to grasp but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good because it was it just wasn’t a story I was dying to read.

The characters definitely all had their own personalities but sometimes they were just annoying and I didn’t like them as much as I thought that I would.

I don’t know what it was but I just didn’t find myself enjoying this book as much as I did but that’s okay because there is definitely room to grow.

This doesn’t however mean I won’t give the book another chance.

This is one of my most surprising reads of the year! I had written off urban fantasy as not my thing, but Nalini Singh made me a believer. I loved this world and these characters. This was such fun, sexy read and I can't wait to continue on with the series.

Raphael definitely had his eye roll worthy moments, but Elena carried the team. She was the perfect balance between badass hunter and vulnerable human. I loved her character a whole ton and I've been promised that Raphael grows with the series.

The world building in this was so unique - Angels create Vampires. Hunter born can scent vampires. Archangels can become evil. I really appreciated how unique and detailed this history & world was.

I plan to read everything on this author's backlist now - which is a whole flipping lot! So I have my work cut out for me in 2020
