This was a fun, enjoyable read about a really well thought out musically magic world. Musicians create spells with their music. Different types of music make different types of spells. It was so well put together, LOVED the world building.
The characters were okay, I would have liked more of them and to learn more of the backstory to our secondary characters. The plot was also a bit wishywashy in some places but I think for a middle grade it did what it set out to do.
This was really a book about finding yourself and learning that believing in yourself is more important than anyone else believing in you.
There was a bit of a plot twist toward the end of the book where we found out what happened to our MC's mother and I was not expecting that. It had me in tears.
A really good story over all but does deal a good bit with bullying and death so if you're looking into this for your mid-grade age kid, I recommend checking for content warnings.
