Ursula K. Le Guin Prize ๐ Shortlists
Books that have been shortlisted for the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction. I compiled this list because the criteria (and Le Guin's works) resonate with me:
"The Prize will be given to a writer whose work reflects the concepts and ideas that were central to Ursulaโs own work, including but not limited to: hope, equity, and freedom; non-violence and alternatives to conflict; and a holistic view of humanityโs place in the natural world."
books set in South Korea / by Korean authors
a favourite niche of mine, partly inspired by 4 years spent living there โจ
Horror for Wimps
aka most of the horror I read. Titles on this list are low on gore, body horror, or anything else you'd consider "scary" in the traditional sense. Instead, they focus on atmosphere and eerie vibes to create a horror experience that doesn't need to be shocking to be effective.
translated korean lit.
a non-exhaustive list.
Surreal Short Story Collections
Let's get weird!! ๐ซ
Cursed Media
Odd Jobs
Books about people (particularly women) with a unique job situation. The definition of "unique job situation" is basically vibes. It could be fantastical or surreal, or just a normal job in an unusual situation. Or maybe a job so mundane and specific that the focus on it feels weird. Also books about real people with unique and interesting jobs. (Also I have not read all of these so I'm just going off descriptions for some of them.)
One author, Many stories
short story collections by a single author in a variety of genres. recommendations welcome!

Ursula K Le Guin Prize Nominees
Nominees for the Ursula K Le Guin Prize for for Fiction, awarded since 2022 for imaginative fiction. (Mostly I have made this because they're always really great picks and I want to work my way through all of them.)
korean literature in translation
literature that transcends borders and often breaks my heart
Experiments Gone Wrong
A place to find books about experiments, lab testing, or other strange controlled environments that take a turn. Please make recommendations if you have them. This is one of my favorite concepts.
The 2026 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction
The Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction is an annual $25,000 cash prize given to a writer for a single work of imaginative fiction. This award is intended to recognize those writers Ursula spoke of in her 2014 National Book Awards speechโrealists of a larger reality, who can imagine real grounds for hope and see alternatives to how we live now. The recipient will be announced on October 21st (Ursulaโs birthday). [Full description: https://www.ursulakleguin.com/prize26]
