When the patriarch of the Ballenger empire dies, his son, Jase, becomes its new leader. Even nearby kingdoms bow to the strength of this outlaw family, who have always governed by their own rules. But a new era looms on the horizon, set in motion by a young queen, which makes her the target of the dynasty's resentment and anger. At the same time, Kazi, a legendary former street thief, is sent by the queen to investigate transgressions against the new settlements. When Kazi arrives in the forbidding land of the Ballengers, she learns that there is more to Jase than she thought. As unexpected events spiral out of their control, bringing them intimately together, they continue to play a cat and mouse game of false moves and motives in order to fulfill their own secret missions. Mary E. Pearson's Dance of Thieves is a new YA novel in the New York Times bestselling Remnant Chronicles universe, in which a reformed thief and the young leader of an outlaw dynasty lock wits in a battle that may cost them their lives—and their hearts.

3.5 (rounding for goodreads because I am nice)
This was fun enough!
But I had some issues:
-Not enough tension in the enemies to lovers part, needed more substance to the romance
-A bit too long, the whole thing could have been edited down
-I still don’t understand the world, is it fantasy? is there magic? What happened with the ancients? Is it post apocalyptic? I was left with many questions
★★★★.5
Dance of Thieves outdid itself as a spin off novel. I was skeptical of a second series in the same world created for the Remnant Chronicles but Mary Pearson found a way to add more to the world while keeping the story separate from her previous novels. The split perspectives of Kazi and Jace were perfectly timed and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked.
Also, this book cover *chefs kiss* major improvement from the Remnant Chronicles!
Adventures, medium paced
Plot and character driven
Strong character development
Lovable characters

Booktok has once again let me down. This was not epic enemies to lovers.
I really liked Kazi. Jase, on the other hand, had no personality apart from being protective of his family. They started to like each other far too early, in the first 100 pages or so, and didn't even get enough time to properly hate each other before they started kissing. I did warm up to them a little at the end. I still hate instalove, though.
This book should have been 200 pages shorter. The middle dragged out so much with nothing significant happening. This book is lucky it had enough other stuff going on with the plot (although that did rely heavily on miscommunication and jumping to the wrong conclusions) besides the romance; otherwise I would've rated it much lower.
