Recs if you like Open Throat...

One of several Non-Humans & Empathy -themed lists by @Myth.Ink (See also: Non-Fiction, GNs/Manga+, Youth Titles, Creature Feature, & the Official @Myth.Ink Curation) | This list is the FICTION-realistic edition, including fictional interactions and considerations of interactions between plausibly realistic non-human beings of all types (trees, robots, animals, ai, aliens, objects, science-experiment beings, etc) and humans, empathy and lack thereof. | Suggestions more than welcome!

Shorter books (under 200 pages) that are part of at least one quest. Many are also in the public domain, making them easily accessible when you want to grind for that next badge.

Book that have an element you’ll miss out on if you read as an audiobook, whether it’s fun formatting or illustrations

Book covers with typography oriented in non-standard alignments, instead of the typical horizontal + left to right text alignment. Or: graphic design is my passion, and today we are learning about text paths 🙂‍↕️. This is an immensely silly List, and always open to suggestions—vertical text, circular, upside down, anything goes!

i love when animals get the chance to yap and/or narrate their own stories :)

recommendations welcome!

Book titles that represent reasons you might go to the doctor, what you might say to each other, or what treatments might be offered to cure your ailments. It's up to you to decide what is what😉

(This is not a commentary on these books or authors! The focus of this list is purely on the titles---but if you find a favorite new read here, I'd love to know🤭)

Following women on journeys to do weird and maybe violent things.

supporting women's rights and very very wrongs

Books where the narrating character is... different.

Books that are written from a feline's perspective or include sections from their perspective! Cats definitely have the ability to write books, they just choose not to because they're busy taking naps and being gremlins. Please comment recommendations!! And let me know if any of these books actually don't have a cat's perspective.

books featuring the perspective of cats 🐱

TLDR : magical realism with emphasis on the magical My own niche microgenre bc I'm a snob! Fantastical realism pushes the boundaries of magical realism, just bordering that edge into fantasy but still holding onto a grounding tree branch in realism. 🚧work in progress, always accepting recs🚧

Exploration on /Challenging whats considered: natural, normal, beautiful, perverse, disgusting, sexual, taboo More ideally (but not limited to) authors relating the topics to themselves/their experiences Hoping to include plenty of intersectionalities (disability, race, etc)/

RECOMMENDATIONS WELCOME / ENCOURAGED 🙏🏻 ✨ Currently Hoping to stick to Adult-Audience Titles (Fiction, Nonfiction (auto)biographical, poetry, maybe graphic novels [on that i haven't decided]) :)

Short-ish Novels inviting consideration of novel characters in novel situations. Are we on a war ship? An airplane? Dedicated to a niche passion? Practicing a little known, long-ago tradition? Choosing a seemingly reasonable path in life that is nonetheless judged “unconventional” by others? Curated through my ACE lens!

queer books under 200 pages because sometimes you just want to read something short (and queer)

Queerness blurs lines between genders, sexualities, and families. Maybe also...between the human and the animal? Enjoy these fiction books that allow things to get a little fuzzy.

Queer stories that are under 200 pages

a collection of really striking covers...cannot vouch for the innards.
