Deep Blue (Blue, #1)

Jules Barnard

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

I pride myself on having my act together—until my boyfriend turns out to be a douche, I lose my job, and my life plan falls apart. When I run into Jaeger, my brother’s best friend from high school, his heated stares breathe life into my dormant girl parts. What the hell? I’m not expecting that from Jaeger—hot though he may be. I’m a walking disaster. But it doesn’t seem to slow his advances or the way my body reacts to him. So here’s what I know. 1. Jaeger’s sexual innuendo is muddling my rational decision-making process 2. His ex is a royal bitch and trying to wriggle her way back into his life 3. I still don’t have a mother-effing job, and 4. I want Jaeger. Only, after all that’s crumpled in my life, I’m terrified I’ll lose him too. *Each book in the Blue Series is a stand-alone story and can be read in any order.*

I have been hearing a lot about the Blue series and I decided to give it a try (it has pretty covers and I am a sucker for pretty covers). Moving on, I read Deep Blue and I will be honest and say I expected more but it was a great story.

Cali is someone who has her future planned: go to Harvard and get a law degree. First, she goes to Lake Tahoe to work at casinos with her best friend Gen, who had gone through a bad break-up and Cali wants to find someone suitable for her to date. What Cali doesn't expect is to find someone she is immensely attracted to: Jaeger. She has a boyfriend so she tries not to get involved but her attraction for Jaeger keeps on growing.

Cali's boyfriend ends up breaking up with her and even though she is heart broken, she can't help but feel hope for her and Jaeger.

I love Jaeger's name. I have never heard someone with that name or similar to it (well, except for Mick Jagger) and I was in love with it. I was drawn to Jaeger, not only because of his name, but his good looks and great personality. He was always the perfect gentleman and very caring. Jaegar likes to carve wood and make designs, while Cali likes to sketch. And this is what I like: Jaeger took one of Cali's sketches and incorporated into one of his carvings. What I like about it is that they both do something they love and they can share it with one another.

I didn't like Cali at times—I wanted to slap her—because she would act immature. One of these examples is that she sees Jaeger and Gen hugging and instead of going over to ask what happened, she decides to pack a bag and leave. I understand that she felt betrayed but I believe she should have asked first rather than jump to conclusions.

I did relate myself a little to Cali and that is about not knowing what to do with the future. This happened to me in high school. I remember I was... [Read more on GenGen's Book Blog]

All in all, it was a light, enjoyable, great summer story.
