I STAN A GOLDEN RETRIEVER MAN WHO IS DOWN BAD FOR THE BLACK CAT WOMAN! I've seen so many mixed reviews for this book, but I had a grand time with it. I binged it in less than a day; I couldn't stop reading. I will say, it is a little different than what we're used to from Ali, but I didn't see that as a negative thing. This one focuses more on the physical attraction, and part of the plot isn't fully there until after 60%-ish, but again, I didn't care. I truly had a great time reading it. - black cat x golden retriever - enemies with benefits - forbidden romance - he falls first - opposites attract FOLLOW ME Instagram • Cozy Chapters Book Club • Newsletter • Fable • StoryGraph • Romantasy Romantics Book Club

4.75 ⭐️ If there’s one thing you need to do in your life is getting the audiobook and experiencing Quicksilver that way. This book took me forever to get into, to the point of setting it down for months, when I was reading it on kindle. I picked up the audiobook and FLEW through it! The narrators aren’t just narrating, they’re voice acting; they’re basically a step away from making it a graphic audio. Truly well done. I’m so excited to know they’ll be doing Brimstone, as well! Hearing Quicksilver dirty-talk sent me to an early grave. 🫠

Naia is an 800-year-old goddess without a title and without power. Because of it, she’s been the victim of abuse from her mother and siblings for centuries, and being moved like a pawn in a game she doesn’t understand. Right before her arranged wedding, she calls forth a good to grant her freedom. Unfortunately, in exchange, she receives a curse that she doesn’t fully understand. I was expecting a faster pace considering this is an Urban Fantasy, but gosh, this was slooooowwww. I think the “past” chapters could’ve easily been shortened to give more focus on the present and for more excitement. The last 30% of the book contained the most exciting parts of the story. The pacing is definitely my biggest issue with this story. My second issue is with the fmc. I understand Naia has gone through so much, but she didn’t need to be child-like and…incompetent. She didn’t add anything of value until the very end of the story. For a goddess, I expected so much more from her. Honestly, the side characters were far more entertaining and captivating than she was. I wish I had gone in expecting cozy, slow-laced, and low-medium stakes story; maybe then I could’ve enjoyed it more. I also think if I had listened to the audiobook, I definitely would’ve rated this higher. I will say the writing is beautiful and atmospheric, and the plot was intriguing enough to make me want to keep reading.

What a beautiful and extraordinary book! The storytelling, the pacing, the characters, the setting; it was all executed to perfection. And the narrator did a wonderful job, not only with her voice but also with conveying all the emotions. Frank deserves the world! 😭😭😭

Meghan’s books are always a good time, and this one is no exception. I was HOWLING! I could not stop laughing and giggling with this book. It deserves a place in your summer tbr! The fake marriage antics and fake fights were the true highlight of this book! Just thinking about them is making me smile right now. And best part, he has a lip ring AND his is pierced!

    😭

*cue “And I’ll still see it until I die, you’re the loss of my life”* This book finished me. 😭 My heart is even hurting at the moment. I went into this book not expecting much, never imaging to have such a visceral reaction to it, but it’s now in my top favorites ever, right alongside The Midnight Library. This story has a certain lightness throughout that it easily overshadows the heaviness of what Meg is going through, which was surprisingly a good thing. Honestly, I related so heavily to her because Meg would throw jokes in the middle of a cry-fest, and I do the exact same. So when the lightness began to fade—like the yellow of a sunset fades into orange and in the blink of an eye, the sun is gone—the true intensity of the story fell heavily on me. The topic of grief and loss are present, but just as the narrator is pushing those emotions aside, I neglected them as well. And gosh, I wasn’t ready—they hit me like a freight train. Amidst all of what’s going on, there’s also the sense of finding oneself, and I won’t say more to prevent spoilers, but it really is beautiful to see outcome for Meg and how she found her place in the world. Yes, my review is all over the place. I just finished sobbing and wiping my eyes while typing this. If there’s anything you need to take away from this review is to go read it! I received an eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion or the book or the content of my review.

There are no words to accurately describe what I just went through reading that “play”… I was so entranced by the unraveling of it all, the crashing down of realization, that it wasn’t until it ended that I came back into my body and realized what I had read. Even now, I’m filled with emotions that are bubbling up inside me, waiting to burst. Already calling this a 5 star read.

OH. MY. GOSH. I feel so silly! All this time I thought this was the "Knockmeout" series. Like knock me out. Oh gosh. In my defense, it does look like it at first glance and Knockemout doesn't sound like a place. 😭
