I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book, but it certainly wasn’t how heavily I would relate to Darcy. 😭 This book had me in tears! It gripped my heart and had me in a ball of emotions. ❤️‍🩹

Beautiful writing. Relatable and profound characters. Charming and magical small town. Zero notes for this book!

Cursed City does not suffer from sequel syndrome at all. WOW! How was this even better than the first book, when Half City was already amazing to begin with?

From the moment this book starts, it’s basically go-go-go until the very end. The plot expands, and we get more of Astera, more characters, more mysteries to unravel, more answers, followed by more questions, and a new love interest that had me down bad and feral!

If I already liked Viv in Half City, this book made me fall hard for her. Her character development and growth was lovely to witness. You see how she allows vulnerability to seep in, especially as she’s accepting who and what she is.

💞 Romance Viv and Deacon’s dynamic worked so well in this second installment. Having to work together, it heightened their chemistry and tension. And Deacon is the typical snarky “villain” character that always wears a panty-melting smirk and never stops with the innuendos—it’s impossible not to eat him up!

“What’s your favorite?” “MFFM probably, but I’ll try anything once—” “Movie, Deacon. What’s your favorite movie?”

It made the enemies-to-lovers dynamic even better this second time around. It should’ve been entirely obvious when in Half City, Viv says, “I had nowhere else to go.” cue all the feral, banchee-like screeching

🫂 Found Family The found family shines so bright! I’m so happy we get to see more of Penny. She’s the sunshine and light to Viv’s grumpiness and darkness. Her involvement with everything that was going on, and how on board she was to support and defend Viv, made their friendship stand out. I’m also hoping Penny gets her own side love story, since we were teased so much about it, and I was eating it up! She deserves someone like this particular character who’s already so devoted to her.

“I think we’re supposed to be with people who fill the gaps inside us, not suffer from the same ones.”

All of the side characters in this book were fantastic. Viv’s found family—Penny, Sophia, Peter, Elliot—and Deacon’s added a layer of trust to the story that I appreciated. I especially loved how present they all were! It made their connection truly feel like a family.

💭 Final Thoughts This book is action-packed, fast-paced, full of betrayals and tension, and an absolute whirlwind! I couldn’t get enough of it! And then we get that cliffhanger?! EXCUSE ME?! I read this ARC back in June, so I need to wait even longer for book 3. 😭

Cursed City made me fall in love with the Urban Fantasy genre, and I have a feeling the final book is going to be an absolute banger of a conclusion.

Cowboy Casual dethroned Where Good Girls Go to Die, which is one of my all-time favorite reads. That’s saying A LOT!
