Sometimes Vamps suck more than one way

compiling Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, New Tales of the Vampires, and Lives of the Mayfair Witches

Female protagonists (or antagonists) who bring a burning rage, iron will, or anything they damn well please to the plot.

I'm an avid vampire book reader and so I thought about making a list to display some great examples of these books and hopefully boost some more obscure ones.

Please feel free to recommend more!

An ever growing list from someone who studied vampire lit

Books from chapter six Gothic and Romantic of Paperbacks from Hell by Grady Hendrix. Each chapter has its own list see my other lists for books from his other chapters. All are paperbacks from the 70s and 80s. To quote Grady Hendrix’s definition of horror “Gothic horror was domestic horror in which affairs of the heart were as important as affairs of the flesh. Is subject matter was families, marriage, houses, children, insanity, and secrets.” (147, Paperbacks from Hell by Grady Hendrix).

Books with adaptations that differ quite a bit from the source material.

I personally really enjoying watching adaptations, even when they fail the original (and especially when they end up elevating it).

Modern adaptations of classics go in the list and so do movies that change big plot points or characters. Movies that had to cut down certain elements because of the change of media are not included. Open to suggestions!

Vampire books, the more gothic the better. Because IWTV has taken over my brain and I need more books like this in my life.

A list of books mentioned in Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles”. Incomplete and ongoing, I’ll add books as I come across them.

If there’s any you think of to add, let me know. I’m on TBT right now, but haven’t scoured the first three books yet— pulled only from memory.
