Magic can save you. Magic can kill you. Students at the Magisterium are supposed to be safe. Under the watchful eyes of the mages, they are taught to use magic to bring order to a chaotic world. But now the chaos is fighting back. Call, Tamara, and Aaron should be worrying about things like pop quizzes and magic contests. Instead, after the shocking death of one of their classmates, they must track down a sinister killer… and risk their own lives in the process. As Call, Tamara, and Aaron discover, magic can only be as good as the person who wields it. In evil hands, it has the capacity to do immeasurable harm, unless it is stopped in time. In this striking third book of Magisterium, bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare present us with a school where anything, good or evil, can happen, and the only way to unlock the truth is to risk everything to find it.

YO THAT BOOK WAS SO GOOD I'M SCREAMING.
Spoilers ahead.
Okay, look. I knew Aaron was going to die. He's replaced by Jasper on the covers of books four and five, so I knew he was going to die. IT STILL REALLY UPSET ME. I'm still hoping that maybe there's a way for him to be saved but idk I'm just really torn up about it.
I had been hoping that maybe Aaron didn't die and that he was going to become the Enemy of Death instead. But once Call and some other people started suspecting him of shady business, I knew it couldn't be him.
Lowkey hoping that his soul is in Alex Strike now, so maybe he's fine? Idk idk.
Once I ruled out Aaron, I immediately suspected Alex. Because he was really the only other side character of significance that wasn't significant. So like, Anastasia was too obvious, so it couldn't be her. And I didn't think it would be Master Rufus or Kimiya or Celia, leaving only Alex Strike and lo and behold.
Tho it took Call WAAAAY too long to piece that together at the end. I was disappointed in him. Smh.
BUT YO THAT WAS SO GOOD I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T FINISH READING THIS WHEN I READ THE IRON TRIAL TWO YEARS AGO!!!!
My only com complaint was that toward the end, there was not enough Jasper, who is the best character in these books. Tho now with Aaron gone and Jasper on the covers, I assume he'll have a bigger and more important role going forward.
4 Stars.
Omygosh it was sooo good. There was a lot of humor, mostly revolving around teens trying to figure out dating, I loved every minute of it.
We get the real deal behind a lot of characters in this one and my word. It was like a rollercoaster ride of who's good and evil. It's all so wacky, it was hard to keep up.
Also, this book broke my heart toward the end. Yeah, remember when I said Aaron was my new George Lovelace, that doesn't mean you can kill him off, girls! Ughhhh.
All in all, a really good book. The plot gets better with each book and with where this one ended, I definitely want to know where it goes from here.
