Recs if you like Briar's Book...

JK Rowling is a bigot who uses her platform to hurt transfolks and other marginalized groups (plus she literally just quoted Mein Kampf on the bird site). If you're still supporting her in 2025, don't bother talking to me.

Fiction books featuring plants as a major theme. For the purpose of this list, fungi are honorary plants! All fiction genres here (though I am primarily a fantasy reader, so suggestions most welcome!)

One of the most underrated authors I’ve ever read.

Not the same as perfect writing, just writing that made a person out of me.

Cozy and fun fantasy reads

Tamora Pierce’s books set in the world of Emmelan. You can start at the beginning, meeting the characters early in their lives, or accidentally jump into the later books (as I did) and still enjoy yourself. Battle Magic and The Will of the Empress are personal favorites and very fun on their own.

Explore the world of Emelan in Tamora Pierce’s Circle of Magic series as Sandry, Daja, Briar, and Tris learn about their unusual magic and set out to improve the world around them.
