Un-be-leaf-able - planty fiction

Fiction books featuring plants as a major theme. For the purpose of this list, fungi are honorary plants! All fiction genres here (though I am primarily a fantasy reader, so suggestions most welcome!)

Love this list name - also loving all the fungi puns I’ve seen in other list names 😂 who knew mushrooms would inspire so many lists

Haha! I wasn't going to include mushrooms but they get put in with plants so much that I have changed my mind.

Oh i love this. Saving and will browse fully when more spoons!

3

I hope you find something you like 🌿

2

You need What Moves the Dead by Kingfisher!

2

I almost added it and changed my mind because mushrooms aren't plants... Buuuut I'll do it anyway now haha

There's that herbologist lady in the book and lots of planty things so I think it works!

2

Sounds like it works perfectly!

How did you know I was looking plant books up this morning? 🧐 I'm reading A Botanical Daughter right now!! It's beautiful and FULL of plants, even down to their specific species and genus🙂‍↕️ (my google search history is crazy rn because I need to know what I'm looking at)

edit to add: there is a mushroom that's a big part of the book technically, but many other plants too

2

Ooh that sounds amazing!! I'll definitely add and be sure to read it soon!

I haven't had a chance to read them yet, but it seems like Predatory Natures by Amy Goldsmith, Evil Roots: Killer Tales of the Botanical Gothic by Daisy Butcher, and Hazelthorn by C.G. Drews might fit!

2

Thank you, they all look excellent! I've added them ☺️

2

I can also recommend „eat the ones you love“ by Sarah Maria Griffin!

2

Excellent, it's on the list!

2

I don't know if you would think this fits, but plants are a big part of The Tainted Cup and its sequel by Robert Jackson Bennett! But in a fantasy setting. Like their common building materials are made out of plants & things like that! It's plant-based worldbuilding, I think I'd say! 🤔

2

That's very true! I've read them both and they didn't pop into my mind for this but I think I'll add them now.

2

No worries if they don't fit the vibe! Just thought I'd throw them out if you hadn't heard of them & wanted to take a look :)

2

I've added Tainted Cup ☺️ it's planty enough I think!

2

Please add The Roots that Bind Us to the list!!

Done!

Thank you so much!!
